The Community
Building Program (CBP) is designed to benefit primarily low-income
families, minorities, women, and homeless emancipated foster
youth through the development of affordable housing.
The uniqueness of the program and the strength of its impact
in our community lies not only in the creation of much-needed
housing opportunities for first time homebuyers, but in the
development of a “vocational pathway” for homeless
youth and a community building career for college and university
students.
A broad-based, multi-faceted program, The Community Building
Program is comprehensive in scope and addresses many key social
issues ranging from homelessness, unemployment, and poverty
to the affordable housing crisis and diminished educational
opportunities for youth.
Currently, our Community Building Program consists of two
independent but interrelated initiatives:
In the
spirit of the Federal Government’s efforts to move more
people from Welfare to work, our key initiatives focus on
the following:
- Integrate
homeless youth with college and university students –
each working at different levels of education helping the
other to move towards greater independence, job preparation,
full-time employment, housing and self-sufficiency.
- Develop
new economic opportunities in struggling neighborhoods --
provide new homes for families moving from welfare to work
and create opportunities for homeownership for first time
homebuyer’s, young families, women and minorities.
- Empower
the whole community from the inside out by planning and
implementing activities that create structural and social
change.
